Nothing too weird to report at Eagles-Dolphins joint practice—but Birds deal Tobin to Seattle

The Sports Daily > Eagles Eye Blog Nothing too weird to report at Eagles-Dolphins joint practice—but Birds deal Tobin to Seattle I echo Beans of Australia’s sigh of relief that nothing too dramatic came out of yesterday’s joint practice between the Eagles and the Miami Dolphins— except that our former and somewhat goofy well-paid cornerback Byron Maxwell got torched in several friendly drills against his former team. Perhaps the best news of all is that our 1st-round pick rookie DE Derek Barnett was back on the field after a mysterious absence on Sunday due to an undisclosed “lower body” injury....

Why Eagles roster cuts are delayed another week…

The Sports Daily > Eagles Eye Blog Why Eagles roster cuts are delayed another week… This week of joint practice with the Miami Dolphins leading up to PS3 on Thursday night has a little less urgency than we were previously used to, because there will be no preliminary roster cuts as in the past. That’s because back in May the NFL owners voted to eliminate the first roster cut-down period. As Connor Orr of NFL.com explains: “In a move that improves chances for roster longshots but also intensifies a frantic, end-of-preseason period for head coaches and general managers, NFL owners...

“Cool Beans” effort by Eagles in 20-16 win over Buffalo…

The Sports Daily > Eagles Eye Blog “Cool Beans” effort by Eagles in 20-16 win over Buffalo… In case you’re wondering, “cool beans” is a good thing—according to the Urban Dictionary, a synonym mainly used when words like cool, sweet, awesome, splendid, amazing, delightful, hell yeah, etc.,  get old. “Hey, dude, I won the lottery.”“Cool beans!” We didn’t exactly win the lottery last night, but the Eagles put enough good stuff on tape to make you believe there is an upside to this coming season. Here’s Tim McManus’ post-game impressions at ESPN.com after a rousing night at the Linc: “It will...

Buffalo Bills vs. Eagles in PS2 has a few good storylines

The Sports Daily > Eagles Eye Blog Buffalo Bills vs. Eagles in PS2 has a few good storylines The Buffalo Bills are in town tonight, which means it’s a homecoming of sorts for Shady McCoy. Whether you love him or hate him, he’s still the Eagles’ all-time leading rusher with 6,792 yards gained and 44 TD’s scored on the ground. There are a few more important storylines ahead for the Eagles tonight, however: -How will right guard Brandon Brooks hold up? This will be his first preseason start coming off an ankle injury earlier in TC… -No Wendell Smallwood tonight...

Alshon’s debut as an Eagle coming up against the Bills in PS2…

The Sports Daily > Eagles Eye Blog Alshon’s debut as an Eagle coming up against the Bills in PS2… Head coach Doug Pederson tells us we can expect to see Alshon Jeffery play at least one series on offense this Thursday night against the Buffalo Bills in PS2.  We also get to see our newest cornerback Ronald Darby in action for “a series or two”, according to Pederson. Rookie DT Elijah Qualls  (6th round, Washington) should be getting a lot of playing time against the Bills on Thursday night. He had 30 snaps on defense last week at Lambeau Field...

My weird little “Key to Progress” to watch for in Eagles PS2…

Barely time to digest the first preseason game (and a big trade over the weekend) before the next preseason game for the Eagles approaches quickly for this Thursday night…and I’m trying to figure out what to key upon in this next exhibition game. This time around the opponent is the Buffalo Bills as they come to town on August 17th for a 7:00 P.M. EST kickoff. I don’t think we’ll be seeing Jordan Matthews in his new Bills uniform as he suffered a pectoral injury in his first practice in Buffalo. It doesn’t look too serious, however, so good...
